The VGNI network serves integrated voice and data services on
a fiber optic network infrastructure. Our hybrid network strategy
optimizes the use of built, leased, and resold facilities. Voice
and ATM/Frame Relay switches strategically placed in major cities
on the East and West coasts, and in Florida, power the VGNI network.
As of the second quarter of 2001, VGNI will operate several SONET
rings in the most populous areas of the northeast, as well as other
routes connecting metropolitan areas in the northeast with California
and Florida.
One year after launching in New York, VGNI supports 1.8 Million
long distance consumer customer lines on network in that state.
In the six-month period from October 2000 to March 2001, New York
voice traffic volume on the VGNI network increased by over 60%.
VGNI also supports over 1.3 Million long distance consumer customer
lines in California.
The VGNI network also supports a variety of data products, including
managed and unmanaged ATM, Frame Relay, and Private Line in 82 domestic
markets. VGNI provides network capabilities for nearly 2,000 dedicated
access business customers and over 200,000 ADSL customers. VGNI
also maintains state-of-the-art Network Operations Centers for both
the IP and Long Distance Networks.
